Can beginners with no experience join your classes?

Absolutely! We welcome complete beginners and have classes specifically designed for those with no prior experience. Our "Pottery for Beginners" and "Cooking Basics" classes are perfect starting points and include all the instruction and materials you need to get started.

Our instructors are experienced in teaching newcomers and create a supportive, non-intimidating environment. We believe that everyone has creative potential, and we're here to help you discover and develop your skills at your own pace.

Do you offer open studio time?

Yes, we offer open studio time for members and current students. The availability depends on your membership level:

  • All-Access Members: Unlimited open studio hours during regular business hours
  • Pottery Basics Members: 8 hours of open studio time per month
  • Current Students: 4 hours of open studio time per week while enrolled in a class

Open studio hours are Monday-Friday 10am-9pm, Saturday 9am-7pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm. Certain times may be reserved for classes or private events, so we recommend checking our weekly schedule before visiting.

How long does it take to complete a pottery project?

The time to complete a pottery project varies depending on the complexity and technique, but a typical project follows this timeline:

  1. Creating the piece: 1-3 hours
  2. Drying time: 3-7 days (depending on size and thickness)
  3. Bisque firing: We run bisque firings weekly; the firing itself takes about 12-15 hours plus cooling time
  4. Glazing: 1-2 hours
  5. Glaze firing: We run glaze firings weekly; the firing takes about 12 hours plus cooling time

From start to finish, you should expect it to take 2-3 weeks for a complete pottery project. For this reason, we recommend starting projects early in a class session to ensure they can be completed before the end of the class.

Can I bring my own materials?

The policy on bringing your own materials varies by class type:

  • Pottery Classes: You may bring your own clay, but it must be approved by our instructors to ensure it's compatible with our kilns. There is a firing fee for outside clay. You may also bring your own tools, but we have everything you need available.
  • Cooking Classes: For food safety and consistency reasons, we generally provide all ingredients. However, if you have specific dietary needs or preferences, please contact us in advance, and we can discuss accommodations.

Please note that we cannot allow outside glazes or chemicals in our studio for safety and kiln maintenance reasons.
